I know what it's like to start a business from scratch and feel like you aren't getting anywhere. You feel like you are constantly doing what everyone is telling you to, but aren't progressing.

Doing free shoots, posting as much as possible, trying to make reels, adjusting your pricing because you feel like it's too much or not enough. I once felt this way too.

I also felt like even when I did put myself out there and invest into my business I was investing into the wrong people. People who gave you the bare minimum and truly weren't in it to also see you succeed.

It's time to step up your game

COMMUNITY

find your people in the community

When I first started out as a photographer I felt extremely lonely. I felt like everyone was judging me for wanting to start a business and it didn't help that I barely knew anyone that had the same goals and mindset that I did. I didn't know anyone in the wedding industry or even any local photographers. Soon after I found Leah who is the host of Wanderlust Shootouts. I decided to sign up for her next shootout and this is where I ended up finding these gals. I remember showing up and being so intimated by all of them because everyone "knew what they were doing." Little did we know that everyone felt exactly the same.

COMMUNITY OVER COMPETITION.

Not everyone is your competition. If you genuinely want to see each other succeed you'll find your people. These people are there to help you grow as both a person and photographer. As vendors in this industry we know how lonely it can get sometimes. I truly believe what helps us get through is the support around us. That starts with other vendors. Sometimes it's nice to talk to someone who just gets it. Someone you can run ideas by and get advice from. Be that person for someone else in the industry.

YOU GET TO TRAVEL TOGETHER

Build those relationships with your peers. Find those like-minded individuals and start creating TOGETHER. Take that dream trip and shoot in that location you've always DREAMED of. There is nothing more rewarding that getting on that flight together and realizing you're both about to accomplish something you've only ever DREAMED of doing.

Trust me, I get it. For someone who travels often I know that traveling alone to a foreign country can be a little scary. Take a friend with! You'll both walk away with an experience of a lifetime.
